Human rights of women in our society
MK Taj Malah *
Women are vital element of a society. A society's progress depends a lot of on them. All societies must strive to do everything possible to integrate women in all walk of life in an equitable and just manner. Any genuine concern about overall women rights question cannot be complete if women are not given due coverage and response. Women need to be considerate the pivot not only of domestic life but of entire society'.
However the fact remains that the denial of rights to women has been often defended by culture and religions. As a result almost of sections of contemporary societies suffer from varying degrees of violations of human rights of women. Today all women share a common degradation, indignity, oppression, violence and discrimination in every society. Also the fact that this discrimination on the basis of gender is so deeply rooted in the history of humanity that often it is not perceived as discrimination.
On top of it, with the increasing criminalisation of society, varied media image of such incident inadequate means to address the causation and implication of such violence, poor enforcement of existing legal provision, globalisation resulting from unabashed consumerism and erosion of traditional values have all added to the problem of violation of human rights of women. However in the last few decades there has been awareness of this disturbing phenomenon and its long term impact on the empowerment, employment and development of women.
Violation of women's human rights:
The human rights of women are judged in the type of the society we envision. We envision a society where we can act on our own behalf with dignity and freedom, recognising that we have both the right and obligation to developed our full potential and to support the development of others. It has been observed that women are human being like men: and women's rights are human's right and feminism cannot be dealing from human rights.
Human's rights of women can be defined as-:
'Collective rights for a women to be seen and accepted as a person with the capacity to decide or act on her own behalf and to have equal access to resource and equitable social economic and political support to developed her full potential, exercise her rights as a full human being and to support development of others'
Violation is an action or policy or an attitude that cause bodily or mental injury and debars or dehumanise a person. The violation of the rights of women is a human rights violation of her body and her right as a person.
Violence against women, regardless of the nature of the perpetrator- an individual, group, institution, the state of the society, is a human rights violation and is treated as such whether it happens in the home, within the family or outside of it.
Against this backdrop, with all areas of human rights, whether civil, political, economy or social, human rights violation against women take specific forms. Entrenched structure and practices such as caste customary laws, the family, religion, etc. continue to discriminate against of women. Economic institutions which are exploiting of women social institution which oppress them or legal instititutions which pride themselves on equal justice are gender biased and clearly distort gender natural notions of law.
The gender violence is a universal phenomenon which takes many forms across cultural race and class. We view violence against women as any action policy or attitude which in any way is a violation of our personhood as we perceive it, or which dehumanise us. On that basis we view violence against women carried out by any individual, group, institution or society as a human rights violation.
It has been observed that human right of the women is being violated of many fields of life. So, the object of my writing is to find out and make some mechanisms and systems: and developed new strategies to empower women who are human being as men and creative and equal partners in the future transformation of our societies and whose contributions to give birth to human beings are more painful, significant and greater than men.
As regards freedom the women are not getting properly. They are insulted by false character assassination when they talk with men in the office, market and public places with the view that they have illicit relations with men. They are killed in ultrasound before taking birth. The old mother is force to leave in aged homes by his son. This is example of women servitude when a women is force to do something which is against her wishes that is equal to slavery and servitude.
The women asked to put off and put on shoes of her husband in regular routine. This is worst them slavery. Freedom of thought, conscience and religion exist only in paper. In practise, this right is insulted and curved by insulting them in the presence of family members so as to encourage her negative spirit and lower her positive complex. In remote areas, the girls are denied of the right to higher education. Foster parents while adopting a child give priority to men rather than to female because female adoption is associated with the serious responsibilities. In political side also, women are parliament even they are half population of the world.
There is also a bad attitude of our society against women that they are the vulnerable group of the society and can't do anything like men. But in reality that is not so. If an animal or bird can do copy or do the activities of human beings, then it is not difficulties for the women to do the work and activities of men who are both human beings and their mental constitution is same and are equally intelligent and competent. Little girls are raped and kidnapped making them future hell like.
In the case of our society that we live in, constant fear and conditions of deprivation very after for their simple reason that they are women. Certain patriachal thoughts and practice that enslave and threaten the dignity of women continue to operate. Women are being looked down as sexual object to fulfil the unrestraint lust of the men.
In other words, male sexual lust and aggression interplayed with the patriarchal notion of either ideal womenhood or polluted and it created insecurity to the women in various ways. She fears for the physical safety and social well being from the ruthless force of decadent customs, traditions and attitude that undermined and subjected women.
Patriachal control over women for a long period of time through a systematic process. The social system which believes that men is supporter to women. Women should be controlled by men and they are part of men's property. In patriachal society men controlled over women both within the household and outside the family.
Within the household women provides all kinds of service to their families and in outside some women are excluded from better paid jobs and forced to sale their labour in low wages and head of the family selectively allow them works. Another area of women's subordination is control over women's sexuality. Women's are obliged to provide sexual service to their husband according to their needs and desire through marriage system.
Besides women may deprived of her human right on account of several non-gender related factors viz. caste or social backwardness poverty or even religions and other cultural taboos.
Finally humanity is just like a bird which needs both wings to fly higher and higher in the sky. Likewise the society we are living can developed only when gender equality is respected and valued. Our society will developed when women could contribute at per with men in all aspects of society.
Equality will bring progress as it will ensure new strength that will be funded on the basis of the lived experienced of the fairness and mutual consensus. A common psychologist make up guided by the virtue of empathy will make this world a better place for all.
