IBSD organised workshop / training program for Entrepreneurship development through mushroom cultivation

BRIC- Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) have successfully conducted a mushroom cultivation workshop for entrepreneurship development at IBSD, Imphal, Manipur from 26th to 27th March, 2025.

Smt. Kengoo Zurengla, IAS, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of Manipur the Chief Guest of todays function highlighted the significance of mushroom-based bio-entrepreneurship in addressing food security, nutritional needs, employment generation and start-ups in Manipur.

Dr. Nanaocha Sharma, Programme Chair, Director (Additional Charge) BRIC-IBSD Imphal expressed the economic potential of mushroom cultivation as a sustainable business venture. He also expressed that IBSD will continue such kind of training for the improvement of socio-economic conditions of the state.

Dr. Sarangthem Indira Devi, Scientist E, Program Coordinator, highlighted about the importance of workshop and the research being carried out at IBSD on wild mushroom and their cultivation in controlled environment.

Dr. W. Mohendro Singh, Senior Administrative Officer of IBSD thanked all the participants who had represented from various districts of Manipur. The inaugural function was attended by 130 participants.

Twenty seven (27) participants including aspiring entrepreneurs, farmers, unemployed youth, officials from State department and students were trained on successful cultivation technique of two commercially important mushroom species, namely split gill mushroom/Kanglayen, Schizophyllum commune and Shiitake/Uyen, Lentinula edodes.

The workshop further demonstrated innovative cultivation techniques and the detailed know-how of scientific spawn production and substrate preparation of the mushrooms.
