The Technothlon 2025 Prelims, held on 13th July, was a monumental success, marking a new chapter in the 22-year legacy of one of India’s most prestigious school-level competitions. Organized by the students of IIT Guwahati, the event saw over 40,000 students from across 200 schools, 500 KVs, and 100 JNVs in India come together to challenge themselves in a battle of logic, creativity and teamwork.
This year’s edition was particularly special as it marked the revival of international participation, welcoming students from multiple countries after a brief pause in recent years. Students from multiple countries joined their Indian counterparts, bringing back the global spirit of Technothlon and showing how problem-solving is a universal language.
Technothlon is unique in its approach. Unlike traditional academic exams, it does not rely on syllabus-based testing. Instead, it is designed to spark out-of-the-box thinking and nurture problem-solving abilities that go beyond textbooks. The Prelims round consisted of a written examination divided into two categories: Juniors (Classes 9–10) and Hauts (Classes 11–12). Students participated in pairs, working together to tackle challenging and unconventional problems.
“It was a tricky question paper where we really had to apply our minds. Each problem felt like a puzzle that pushed us to think differently. We had to approach situations from multiple angles to figure out the best solution. It truly exercised our brains,” says Rachit Shah - Convenor, Techniche 2025.
What began in a small room in 2004 with just 200 students has now grown into a global celebration of young talent. Run completely by students and powered by passion, not profit, Technothlon has become a platform for thousands of participants from across India and the world to think differently, solve creatively, and learn together.
One of the most inspiring aspects of this year’s edition was its wide reach. Schools in remote parts of the Northeast participated in large numbers, proving that Technothlon is not just limited to big cities. It is a movement that reaches every corner of the country.
A special thanks goes to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti for conducting the exam in nearly all of their schools. This collaboration, revived after six years, played a key role in making the event a huge success.
Technothlon is also more than just an exam. In the weeks leading up to the Prelims, the team organized several online and offline sessions under the LED program, i.e., Learn, Experience, Discover. These included logic-based webinars, puzzle challenges, and fun workshops that helped students explore problem-solving in a new and exciting way.
The support from students, teachers, and schools showed that Technothlon continues to inspire the next generation of thinkers. By giving them a fresh way to learn, it helps students grow beyond the classroom, i.e., through curiosity, logic, and teamwork.
The top 50 teams from the Prelims will now move on to the Mains round, which will take place at IIT Guwahati during Techniche, the institute’s annual techno-management festival. At Mains, finalists will get to experience life at IIT through hands-on challenges, workshops, and team-based events, an experience many describe as life-changing.
With its 22nd edition setting new records in reach, participation, and impact, Technothlon 2025 has once again proven the power of student-driven ideas. As the world evolves and new challenges arise, the need for platforms that foster problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork is stronger than ever, and Technothlon is proudly leading the way.
