First-Ever Northeast Social Work Conclave held, marking a New Era for Social Work in the Region

The 1st Northeast Social Work Conclave 2025, organized by the Indian Awaz Foundation in association with the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Government, was successfully held at PD Hall, Gauhati University, on the occasion of International Social Work Day on 18th of March. The conclave provided a platform for students, professionals, policymakers, and changemakers to engage in discussions on the evolving role of social work, the significance of formal education in the field, and the impact of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in sustainable development.

Hon’ble Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTR, Shri Pramod Boro, graced the event as the Chief Guest, delivering an inspiring address on the importance of grassroots initiatives in building inclusive societies. In his speech, he emphasized the transformative role of social work in nation-building and encouraged young professionals to actively contribute toward an equitable and self-reliant society. Shri Wilson Hasda, Executive Member, BTR, attended as the Special Invitee, highlighting the need to bridge the gap between policy and grassroots efforts to ensure long-term social impact.

Speaking on the occasion, Md Nazim Ahmed, Founder & Director of Indian Awaz Foundation, stated, "Social work is not just a profession; it is a commitment to creating change, uplifting communities, and spreading hope. This conclave is a reflection of the power of collective action in bringing real impact. This was all possible because of the support from BTR and their vision of promoting social work as a driving force for development."

The conclave featured thought-provoking panel discussions, expert-led sessions, and interactive engagements, bringing together representatives from social work institutions, NGOs, corporate CSR leaders, and academicians. Key sessions focused on the growing need for professional social workers, CSR investments in the Northeast, and innovative approaches to social impact.

One of the most powerful moments of the conclave was the Pledge Wall Activity, where delegates committed to being agents of positive change. Chief Guest Shri Pramod Boro led the pledge by writing, "Only love and peace can protect the world."

This message resonated deeply with attendees, reinforcing the core values of compassion, unity, and action in social work.

With overwhelming participation and engagement, the 1st Northeast Social Work Conclave has set the stage for a long-term, community-driven initiative. The event marked the beginning of an annual movement to recognize and empower social work professionals across the Northeast, ensuring greater collaboration and impact in the years to come.
