BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development Celebrates National Science Day
The BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat, Imphal commemorated National Science Day 2025 with a vibrant celebration at its Conference Hall today. The annual event, observed on 28th February, honours the anniversary of Sir C.V. Raman's revolutionary discovery of the 'Raman Effect' in 1928—a scientific breakthrough that earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 and established him as the first Indian Nobel laureate in the sciences.
The celebration brought together staff, research scholars, and students from IBSD's regional centres in Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Mizoram, who participated both in-person and virtually. The institute also welcomed a delegation of teachers and students from Ramkrishna Mission School, Uripok, Imphal, enhancing the community outreach of the event.
Dr. H. Nanaocha Sharma, Director (Additional Charge) of BRIC-IBSD, opened the ceremony with a welcome address, articulating the institute's mission, goals, and strategic objectives in advancing bioresource research and sustainable development in the region.

In his inspirational address, Swami Aatmavikasananda of Ramkrishna Mission School emphasized the critical role of science in everyday life and encouraged students to pursue careers in scientific research and innovation.
Prof. Nongmaithem Rajmuhon Singh, Former Vice-Chancellor of D.M. University, Manipur, delivered an illuminating keynote speech highlighting the historical significance of National Science Day and detailing Sir C.V. Raman's extraordinary scientific journey. His presentation offered valuable insights into the far-reaching implications of the Raman Effect and its continued relevance in modern science.
The celebration featured an interactive Science Quiz that fostered enthusiastic participation among attendees, promoting scientific curiosity and knowledge exchange.
Dr. W. Mohendro Singh, Senior Administrative Officer of IBSD, Imphal, concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers for their contributions to the successful commemoration.
