Manipur University Hosts One-Day NSS Orientation Programme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University organized a One-Day NSS Orientation Programme today at the Court Hall, as part of the Swachhata (Cleanliness) Programme. The event, which began at 10:30 a.m., was attended by distinguished guests and enthusiastic participants.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, as the Chief Guest, along with Shri Nakul Chandra Deori, Senior Youth Officer, NSS NER, Guwahati, Assam, and Shri L. Marjitkumar Singh, State Director of NYKS, Manipur, as Guests of Honour. Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator of NSS Cell, Manipur University, as president for this inaugural function.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by the NSS song. Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator of NSS Cell, Manipur University in his welcome address, Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of the event in promoting NSS activities and fostering collaboration among NSS Programme Officers. He also emphasized the significance of the Swachhata Programme, focusing on cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene, as essential for a healthy life and environment.

Shri Nakul Chandra Deori delivered a key address on the role of NSS in educational institutions, stressing the importance of integrating NSS activities across schools, colleges, and universities to cultivate responsibility and service in students.

Manipur University Hosts One-Day NSS Orientation Programme

Shri L. Marjitkumar Singh discussed the partnership between NYKS and NSS, introducing the MyBharat Portal and the need for NSS volunteers and officers to register on the platform, enhancing their alignment with national youth programs.

Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, the Chief Guest, spoke on the transformative power of NSS in shaping students’ personalities through community service. He emphasized NSS as a core curricular activity in higher education and encouraged the establishment of NSS units in more colleges, including private institutions, to maximize the benefits for students.

The technical sessions followed the inaugural function. The first session was led by Shri Nakul Chandra Deori, who presented the Basic Design and Programme Structure of NSS, offering a comprehensive understanding of the NSS framework.

Prof. A. Rajmani Singha, Former NSS Programme Coordinator and Director of IQAC, Manipur University, conducted the second session on Life Skills, underscoring their importance in personal and professional development.

The final session, delivered by Prof. Ch. Ibohal Singh, Former NSS Programme Coordinator and Head of Library and Information Science, focused on Empowering Students and Youth: The NSS Way. He discussed how NSS nurtures leadership, teamwork, and a spirit of service in youth.

The day concluded with a valedictory ceremony, where certificates were awarded to the successful participants, recognizing their active involvement and commitment to the NSS mission.
