Workshop on Integrating Social and Behaviour Change Modules
Department of Social Work, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), in collaboration with the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Secretariat office under the aegis of Assam Don Bosco University and UNICEF Assam & Northeast has organised a one-day capacity building programme on 13th September, 2024 (Friday).
The programme was aimed at providing handholding support to faculty members of the university in integrating Communication for Social and Behaviour Change (CSBC) modules into the curriculum of various Departments of RGU.
Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor, RGU encouraged the participants through his message mentioning the different aspects of Communication for Social and Behaviour Change in the current Scenerio. Dr. N.T. Rikam, Registrar, RGU in his message shared about the role of SBC in transforming attitudes and behaviours that can lead to meaningful, long-lasting societal improvements. Prof. Otem Padung, Finance Officer, RGU also motivated the participants to incorporate SBC for their larger social and academic interest.
The session provided a platform for meaningful interaction between attendees and distinguished resource persons, notably including Dr Elizabeth Hatza, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, Mizoram University, Prof. Riju Sharma, Project Head NE-SBC Alliance, ADBU. They shared detailed information regarding Social and Behaviour Change Communication.
Their insights regarding the inculcation of theoretical framework and interventions in Bachelor’s and Master’s Syllabi will give a new direction to the Social Sciences Curricula and they also explained the importance of integrating CSBC modules into higher education institutes.
Over 80 participants pro-actively attended and benefitted from the programme. Dr. Ravi Ranjan Kumar, Head, Department of Social Work, RGU headed the programme and Dr. John G. Gangmei and Mr. Daisinlung Sebastian Kamson coordinated the programme.
Dr. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, Dr. Chaphiak Lowang and Mr. Phungkha Basumatary, NE-SBC Alliance, ADBU commended the attendees for their enthusiastic engagement during the session, highlighting to facilitate the efficient incorporation of CSBC modules across a wide array of academic domains. Ms. Urvashi Gaurav and Ms. Sushmita Goala, Department of Social Work, RGU also played an integral role in facilitating the event.
The event was moderated by Ms. Manaswini Panda, PhD Scholar of Department of Social Work and Tomo Habung, Student of Department of Social Work.
