IBSD celebrated Himalayan Diwas
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India organized seminar on “Importance of Himalaya and the need for its conservation” to celebrate the Himalayan Diwas.
During the programme, Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director, IBSD highlighted various initiatives of IBSD for the connecting Eastern and Western Himalaya for development of bioeconomy from bioresources. He highlighted the importance of Himalayan Day and mentioned about various activities of IBSD for the conservation and sustainable utilization of bioresources of Eastern Himalaya.
During the event, Prof. Anil Joshi, Founder, HESCO, Uttarakhand highlighted that Himalaya serve communities of various states in India and in fact they are major users of Himalayas’ resources thus their stakes for conservation of Himalaya also need to be realized.
Dr Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director, CSIR-IHBT, Palampur highlighted various initiatives of the institute for conservation in Western Himalaya. During the event, Dr Rajan Kumar Kotru, Chief Technical Advisor, Indo-German Programme highlighted various policies for the development of Indian Himalayan Region.
He mentioned that celebrating Himalayan Day involves all stakeholders, politicians, spiritual leaders, scientists, students, academicians, and communities from all sections and ecological zones. Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, Director, Environment and Climate Change, Govt. of Manipur highlighted various initiatives of the department for conservation of bioresources and climate change. This programme was attended by many scientists and research scholars of IBSD, Imphal.
