Interaction Programme on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) at Manipur University

The Interaction Programme on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was successfully conducted on 18th October 2024 at the Court Hall, Manipur University. The event was aimed at raising awareness and providing insights into intellectual property rights, patents, copyrights and trademarks, fostering a deeper understanding among faculty members and research scholars of the university.

The dignitaries present at the event included the Chief Guest, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, and the Speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Unnat P. Pandit, Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

The Guests of Honor were Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar of Manipur University, and Prof. A. Rajmani Singha, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Manipur University. The event was presided over by Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, Director of the Research & Development Cell at Manipur University.

Programme Details:

Registration of participants commenced at 1:00 PM. The gathering of dignitaries and delegates took place at Court Hall. Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, Manipur University, delivered the welcome speech.

Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, expressed in his keynote speech that Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) play a crucial role in improving the university's ranking, and Manipur University is also making significant progress in the research ecosystem.

Then at 1:30 PM the Interaction Programme on IPR began, led by Prof. (Dr) Unnat P. Pandit, who provided a comprehensive overview of Intellectual Property Rights, including patents, designs, and trademarks. He discussed the importance of intellectual property in research and innovation, encouraging scholars to actively protect their intellectual assets.

The session was highly interactive, with a Q&A segment where participants raised questions about patents and trademark processes, challenges in IP protection, and the role of IP in academic and industrial collaborations. Dr. Pandit addressed the queries, providing practical insights and guidance.

Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, in his presidential speech, emphasized the significance of research-driven innovation and how intellectual property could play a transformative role in academic institutions.

Vote of thanks delivered by Prof. A. Rajmani Singha, expressing gratitude to the esteemed guests, participants, and organizing committee.

The program concluded with light refreshments.

Approximately 130 faculty members and research scholars from various departments of the university actively participated in the programme. The session proved to be highly informative, with enthusiastic engagement from the attendees, reflecting the importance of understanding intellectual property in the academic and research ecosystem.

The event was a grand success, contributing to the growing discourse on intellectual property rights within the university community, paving the way for future initiatives and collaborations in the field of IP protection and management. This year, the IPR will focus on musical instruments. Immediate action will be taken by organizing workshops.
