National Space Day 2024 Celebrated at IIIT Manipur

On August 23, 2024, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur, celebrated the National Space Day 2024 event, with Padma Bhushan Prof. Thirumalachari Ramasami, Former Director of the Department of Science and Technology, India, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Ramasami highlighted the importance of National Space Day, focusing on the Chandrayaan 3 mission, its significant features, and its sustainable technology.

Prof. Krishnan Baskar, Director of IIIT Manipur, delivered the Presidential Address, emphasizing the critical role of space exploration and the contribution of educational institutions in nurturing scientific curiosity among students.

The celebration included National Space Day Exhibition 2024 for students from different schools of Manipur (class 8 to 12 standards), a quiz competition, and a robotics challenge. Approximately a total of 100 students from various schools of Manipur visited IIIT Manipur.

Students who participated are from Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Assam Rifles Public School, New Keithelmanbi, DAV Public School, Sangakpham and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Akampat. The students who visited IIIT Manipur were engaged in a lab demonstration session.

The exhibition concluded with Naorem Arjun Singh and Elex Chongtham of Johnstone Higher Secondary School winning first place. The second place was secured by Saurabh Deb and Shilheibi Chanu of Assam Rifles Public School, IGAR South Mantripukhri, while Sophia Lourembam and Ingudam Velena from Kendriya Vidyalaya Akampat achieved third place with a cash prize of Rs 5000/-, Rs.3000/- and Rs.2000/- respectively with a certificates.

The celebration concluded with an observation that the future space race can only be won with the hard work of young budding minds.
