MOU signed : KIIT-Technology Business Incubator & Manipur Technology Innovation Hub (MTI-HUB) and South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SAbF)
KIIT-Technology Business Incubator & Manipur Technology Innovation Hub (MTI-HUB) and South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SAbF) are pleased to announce the MOU signed on 20th May, 2024. This strategic partnership aims to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development through collaborative initiatives and resource sharing.
The MoU was signed during a formal ceremony held at MTI-HUB, attended by key representatives from all involved parties. This agreement marks a significant milestone in collective effort to support budding entrepreneurs and promote the use of bamboo and allied areas as a sustainable resource in various industries. India is the second richest country in the world after China in terms of bamboo genetic resources.
There are 137 indigenous and 11 exotic species of bamboo belonging to 29 genera in India. The Northeastern States and West Bengal account for more than 50% of the bamboo resources of the country. Bamboo has great potential to create economic value and employment for farmers, artisans, traders, small and medium enterprises, and large-scale bamboo-based industries.
Key Objectives of the Partnership:
1. Startup Support and Mentorship: Providing aspiring entrepreneurs with access to a comprehensive incubation program that includes mentorship, training, and funding opportunities.
2. Innovation and Research: Collaborating on research projects to explore innovative uses of bamboo and allied product along with other sustainable materials, contributing to environmental conservation and economic growth.
3. Resource Sharing and establishment of Bamboo Technology Innovation Hub: Leveraging the combined resources to create a supportive ecosystem for startups and establishment of Bamboo Technology Innovation Hub.
4. Community Engagement: Engaging with local communities to raise awareness about the benefits of bamboo and sustainable practices, and encouraging community participation in related projects.

By bringing together local and regional bamboo people and creating mechanisms for global communication, SABF; s goal is to facilitate the development of new partnerships and alliances to advance the causes of bamboo and furthering the efforts of bamboo practitioners worldwide particularly in South Asia. SABF is working closely with various NGOs in South Asian nations. SABF is working to bring the SDG; s of UN closer to Bamboo worldwide.
