Golden Jubilee of Hamai English High School, Tamei
Hamai English High School, Tamei, celebrate its Golden Jubilee on the 26th and 27th of October, 2024, commemorating five decades of dedication to education in the region. The school was established in 1975 under the Liangmai Naga Baptist Association, Manipur (LNBA, M), to serve and provide education to the students in Liangmai area which is located in the rural hills of Manipur with limited access to education and other development facilities due to geographical isolation.
The two-day Golden Jubilee celebration was inaugurated on October 26, 2024, with the theme, "Celebrating in the Praise of God’s Everlasting Love."
The opening day was attended by thousand of students, teachers, alumni, and parents. The Hon'ble Minister of Water Resources, Relief, and Disaster Management, Govt. of Manipur, Munhu Awangbow Newmai, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Notably, Minister Newmai has a long-standing connection with the school, he served as its headmaster for nearly two decades before transitioning into politics. The Minister spoke about Naga-kuki conflict in 1993-94 era as one of the most challenging periods in the school’s history, where both faculty and students shows tremendous resilience and character in the face critical challenges.
During the program, Dr. Hunibou Newmai, Principal of Hamai English High School, spoke about the founding vision and mission of the school. He highlighted the critical role the school has played in providing educational opportunities in a region historically isolated and underdeveloped, contributing to the education of over 1,300 students who have successfully passed matriculation from the school.
The second day, October 27, 2024, was dedicated to an alumni reunion in honor of the school’s legacy. Hundreds of Hamai alumni, now established professionals across various fields, including teachers, medical doctors, PhD scholars, theologian, social workers, and leaders from various organizations gathered to celebrate their alma mater.
The two-day event concluded with Science Exhibition from the Students and vibrant cultural performances, including Liangmai songs and dances.
