Curtain Raiser: International Conference on "Bioeconomy from Bioresources"
IBSD organized Curtain Raiser program for the upcoming International conference on "Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Promoting Traditional Resources of NER for Viksit Bharat.
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development is the only institute in Northeastern Region of India in the ambit of Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. IBSDorganized theCurtain Raiser program for the upcoming International Conference on "Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Promoting Traditional Resources of NER for Viksit Bharat.
During the programme, Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD highlighted various initiatives of the institute for the development of Bioeconomy from Bioresources and promoting traditional resources of NER. He mentioned that IBSD is synergizing the research activities for promoting bioeconomy from bioresources.
He highlighted the initiatives of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India for implementing BioE3 (Biotechnology for Ecology, Environment and Employment) policy translational research, biomanufacturing and entrepreneurship development. He highlighted that upcoming International conference is initiative from IBSD for the development of bioentrepreneurship and promoting traditional resources of NER for Viksit Bharat.

During the event, Shri G. T. Dhungel, Hon’ble Minister, Health & Family Welfare and Culture Department, Govt. of Sikkim appreciated the initiatives of IBSD for promoting bioresources of NER. He highlighted various activities of IBSD for the development and management of bioresources for promoting bioeconomy of the region. He congratulated Director, IBSD for organizing this international conference at Gangtok, Sikkim.
Dr. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India appreciated this initiative of IBSD and organizing conference in collaboration with Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Gangtok. Shri Sekhar Dutt, Former Governor, Govt of Chhattisgarh & Advisor, SFE highlighted the importance of traditional knowledge and bioresources for the development of drug.
Prof. Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Vice Chancellor (I/C), Sikkim University, Gangtok appreciated the efforts of IBSD for organizing this international conference in Sikkim to highlight traditional resources of NER for Viksit Bharat. During the programme, many Directors from iBRIC including Prof. Ashwini Pareek, NABI, Dr. Ramesh Sonti, ICGEB appreciated the initiative of IBSD for promoting bioresources of NER.
The programme was attended by state officials including Dr. Achintya Mitra, Asst. Director in- Charge, RARI, Sh. Tshering P. Bhutia, Assistant Director, SMPB, Mr. M. Ravikumar, Director, MSME, Dr Suman Rinchen Lepcha, DST, Sikkim, Ms Pema Bhutia, Horticulture department and officials from
Society from Ethnopharmacology (SFE), Kolkata. Many traditional healers, entrepreneurs, researcher from Sikkim joined the programme. The programme was attended by scientists, scholars and staffs of IBSD including Meghalaya, Sikkim and Mizoram centres.
