RGU Joins Har Ghar Dhyan Campaign with a One-Day Session on Meditation and Mental Health
A one-day session was organised on “Meditation and Mental Health” by Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills on 2nd December, 2022. The program is a part of the nation-wide campaign Har Ghar Dhyan which is under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav by Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with the Art of Living Foundation. At the very outset Professor Santanu K. Patnaik, Meditation Ambassador and Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, RGU welcome the august gathering.
The resource persons of the session were Mrs. Ganga Jerang and Mrs. Tadar Paine of the Art of Living, Itanagar Centre. Mrs. Jerang began her session with an elaborate deliberation about meditation, its intrinsic and instrumental various benefits and augmented health as well as improved productivity as one of the most important by-products of practicing meditation daily. She also highlighted the harmful effects of stress on mind and body.
She pointed out that perception of mind is the most powerful tool to cope with any kind of stress in life. Leading a healthy life and incorporating yoga in life was outlined as a well proved way to cope with stress.
The presentation was followed by few activities to relax one’s body and she ended her session with demonstrating short guided meditation. All the participants meditated under her able guidance. Professor Saket Kushwaha, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, RGU addressed the gathering by outlining the importance of programs like this to enhance harmony and well-being in the society. He highlighted that such programs are an opportunity for wholesome development of students.
He also shared his concern that how COVID-19 has brought changes in human lives and leading a healthy life and practicing meditation is the way forward to cope with negative emotions and life stressors. The program was attended by over 200 participants ranging from Deans of various faculties, Heads of Departments, Directors of Institutes, students, scholars, teaching and non-teaching staff of various departments and branches of RGU.
The program was moderated by Dr. Dharmeshwari Lourembam, Department of Psychology and was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ravi Ranjan Kumar, Department of Social Work- the two young Heads of organizing Departments in the leadership of RGU Meditation Ambassador, Prof. Santanu K. Patnaik, Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
All the participants were awarded with Certificates at the conclusion of event. The initiative by Ministry of Culture, Government of India was lauded by the learned attendees while the active contributions by Art of Living Foundation was also acknowledged.
