Impact of science on society deliberated
A one-day National Seminar on the theme: ‘Impact of Science on Society’ is organised by the Physics Department, Lilong Haoreibi College, Thoubal District, Manipur in consultation with the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Mumbai this day the 30th July 2022 at the college multipurpose hall.
The inaugural session of the seminar organised as a part of the yearlong celebrations of 75 years of India’s Independence: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was attended by the controller of examinations, DM University Dr. A. Nabachandra Singh as the chief guest, Head of the Physics Department Lilong Haoreibi College K. Yaima Singh as the president and Principal of the college Dr Md. Raheijuddin Sheikh as the Guest of Honour.
The Scientific Officer at the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai and Regional Chair at the Study Forum for Advanced Technology, NE Region Dr Th Dewan Singh addressed the issues related to the radiations with special focus on the importance of radiations for the societal development while giving his key presentation in the plenary sessions on the theme: Radiations, Regulations and Safety Measures.
While giving the key speech of the seminar on the theme: Multidisciplinery and Interdisciplinery Research under NEP 2020, the Principal of the College Dr. Md. Raheijuddin Sheikh emphasised on development of ‘large multidisciplinary higher educational institutions’ to meet the requirement of research and development activities in the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach as envisaged in the recommendations of the National Education Policy NEP 2020.
Head of the Physics Department, S Kula Women’s College Dr. A. Joy Singh highlighted the interdependence of the Scientific research and societal development of a nation. Dr. B. Arunkumar Sharma of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Regional Institute of Medical Science, Imphal discussed the role of radiations in medical sciences by giving a glimpse of recent advances in the field radiation therapy in treatment of cancer and other related diseases.
Dr. S. Nabadwip Singh of the Department of Physics at Oriental College has highlighted the Role of Thermoluminescence and Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dating Methods in the studies of different artefacts, archaeological sites, historical monuments and authentication of many historical accounts.
Altogether 120 delegates were present in the seminar and 32 abstracts were compiled in the form of book which was published by the dignitaries. In the technical sessions, 32 original research papers were presented by teachers from different colleges and universities and Dr. A. Nabachandra Singh moderated the sessions.
