Eight Meet of Astronomers concluded at MU
Northeast Meet of Astronomers (NEMA-8) :: 21st to 23rd November 2022
A 3- day Conference of the eight edition of Northeast Meet of Astronomers (NEMA-8) from 21st to 23rd November 2022 organized by the Department of Physics, Manipur University under the aegis of the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune – an autonomous institute of UGC, has concluded.
The aim of the NEMA-8 conference was to bring together young and highly motivated students, researchers, and college and university teachers of the North- East region, working or intending to take up research in the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics and related topics, on a single platform to simulate discussions and collaborations.
NEMA conference has been a regular annual event of IUCAA, Pune since it was first launched at the Department of Physics, Tezpur University during 26th to 28th October, 2015.
Prof. K. Yugindro Singh, Department of Physics, MU and Dr. I. Ablu Meitei, Department of Physics, D.M. College of Science were the Convenor and Co-Convenor of the NEMA-8 conference respectively.
The 3-day NEMA-8 conference started at 10:00 AM on 21st November 2022 with a very brief Inaugural Function in which Prof. K. Yugindro Singh, Dean, School of Mathematical & Physical Sciences, MU, Prof. H. Basantakumar Sharma, Head, Department of Physics, MU and Prof. Ng. Ibohal (Retired), Department of Mathematics, MU were present on the dais as the Chief Guest, President, Guest of Honour respectively. Senior Professor Ranjeev Mishra of IUCAA, Pune attended the conference online.
The NEMA-8 conference had five technical sessions comprising of 38 talks delivered by faculty members and research scholars from various institutions of Northeast states. A wide range of topics covering Planetary Science, Solar Physics, Astronomical Observations and Data Analysis, High-Energy Astrophysics, General Relativity, Astroparticle and Cosmology were deliberated in the conference.
Delegates from Indian Institute of Technology (Guwahati), Gauhati University, Tezpur University, Assam University, Mizoram University, Manipur University, Bhattadev University, Assam Don Bosco University, University of Science & Technology (Meghalaya), Science College (Kokrajhar), St. Edmond’s College (Shillong), Dhanamanjuri College of Science (Imphal), etc. attended the NEMA-8 conference.
A feedback session was conducted by Prof. Ranjeev Mishra online at the end of the 3rd Technical Session of NEMA-8 and the venue of the next edition of NEMA conference i.e. NEMA-9 was decided to be held at Mizoram University in that feedback session.
The conference ended with a valedictory function in the presence of Prof. K. Yugindro Singh, Dean, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, MU and Prof. H. Basantakumar Sharma, Head, Department of Physics, MU. At the end of the conference a sight-seeing tour at Moirang was arranged.
