IBSD has organized Brainstorming & Discussion on
“Metabolic disorder and uses of medicinal plants of NER”
Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India organized a Brainstorming & Discussion on the theme of “Metabolic disorder and uses of medicinal plants of NER” at IBSD, Imphal on July 05, 2022, with the active leadership Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, Imphal to 2022 to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” with the involvement of renowned scientists and experts in the field of metabolic disorder. The deliberations by the resource persons related to the metabolic disorders the resource persons definitely enrich the knowledge and interest of the students/researchers of IBSD.
During the programme, Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director, IBSD welcome all the guests and participants; highlighted various research initiatives taken by IBSD in the field of metabolic disorders to explore the rich bioresource of NER.
Dr. Niloo Srivastava, Scientist, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi highlighted various aspects on research and development of botanicals to inspire the young researchers to persue their research work enthusiastically. The gathering was further addressed by Dr Ravinder Goswami, Professor, All Indoa Institute of Medocal Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
Prof. Goswami protrudes on the different unmet needs for metabolic disorders with special emphasis on Diabetes and its clinical complications. Dr Jatin Kalita , Scientist, North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, Assam address the gathering and emphasized on the research ethics and its importance for pursuing research career.
Dr. Pushkar Dev, Ayurvedic Practitioner from New Delhi discussed different complications and treatment procedure to treat and manage diabetes and kidney stones. Dr. Sanjay K Banerjee, Asso. Prof., National Institute of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education Research (NIPER), Guwahati has discussed several crucial and contemporary issues on exploration of natural products in cardio-metabolic disorders.
He also addressed the young research to collaborate for strengthening their translational research outcomes.
Another senior scientist Dr Ajay Kumar from Translational Health Sciennces and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad has delivered lecture on different phenotypic models for drug development in metabolic disorders.
Dr. Prasenjit Manna from CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat has addressed the gathering and explains in details the application of plant based traditional medicine for the treatment of metabolic disorders.
Other scientists namely Dr. Tulika Goswami, Professor, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Assam; Dr. AKS Rawat, Director, Former Scientist, NBRI, Lucknow and Dr. Jeemon Panniyammakal, Associate Professor, SCTIMST, Trivandrum also highlighted different aspects on drug discovery and development by exploring plant bioresources of NER in metabolic disorders. This programme was attended by more than 150 participants.
On behalf of IBSD, Dr. S. Indira Devi, Scientist, IBSD has expressed sincere thanks to all the experts, participants and organizing team to make this event so attractive, interactive and successful in all aspects.
