Debate Competition : Olympics- Development of Global Community or Extravaganza

As a part of the awareness program on Olympic Games, Co-Curricular Committee, National Sports University, Manipur organized a Virtual Debate Competition on the topic “The Olympics- A Testimony to Development of Global Community or An Extravaganza” on Monday 28th June 2021.
On this occasion, Shri R.C Mishra, IAS (Retd), Vice-Chancellor, National Sports University, Shri. Dev Shankar Sharma, IAS (Retd.) President, Manipur Table Tennis Association and Member, Manipur Olympic Association and Sh. L. Shyam Kumar, Registrar, National Sports University graced the occasion as the President, Chief Guest, and Guest of Honor respectively. Dean of Academics, Prof. R. Subramanian, was also present as Special Guest.
A total of 17 students from different semesters of National Sports University took part in the competition. The judges for this competition were Shri. Deva Shankar Sharma, IAS (Retd.), Smt. Gehabati Chanabam, Deputy Controller of Examination, National Sports University and Dr. Shyam Sunder Rath, Head & Associate Professor, Department of Physical Education and Sports Coaching, National Sports University.
On the occasion, L. Shyam Kumar, Registrar, National Sports University urged the students to watch the Olympics 2021 to learn how to conduct and manage such a mega event in this pandemic situation and learn crisis management. He concluded after wishing all the participants for a healthy competition
Speaking on the occasion Shri. Deva Shankar Sharma, IAS, Retd said, “Debates play a pivotal role in broadening the views of participants. For students, especially, they help a lot in cultivating their thought process as they learn about new, interesting and useful facts through a healthy exchange of ideas.” He congratulated all the NSU fraternity for organizing such valuable events to engage the students despite the pandemic situation.
The President of the event Shri. R. C Mishra. (IAS Retd), Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, NSU congratulated all the participants and winners for their hard work. He also declared the results of the competition. While sharing his views on the occasion he said that he was proud of the students for their active participation. He further said that it is the time that the nation also considered placing a bid to be an Olympic host as it would boost the socio-economic condition of the nation.
The first position for the Virtual Debate Competition was bagged by Mr.Nikunj Viz, BSC 6th Semester, second position by Ms. Anshita Yadav, BPES 6th Semester and third position by Sanny Pandey, BSC 4th Semester. E-Certificates and the cash prize was distributed to all the winners.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. S Premananda Singh, Convenor, Co-Curricular Committee, National Sports University.
