Tribal Design Forum Launches Second Edition of TDF ACADEMY Series Featuring Interactive Sessions on Design Career Guidance.
In an ongoing effort to bridge the awareness gap in design education among tribal communities, the Tribal Design Forum (TDF) is set to host the second edition of its TDF ACADEMY Series from May 5 to 15, 2025, with daily sessions at 7:30 PM on Zoom.
Despite growing interest, many young students from tribal backgrounds remain hesitant to apply to design schools not due to lack of ability, but due to limited exposure to design as a professional path. Parents and guardians, too, often face a lack of clear, accessible information about the design industry, educational requirements, and career outcomes.
The TDF ACADEMY Series is designed to address these challenges head-on. The 10-day virtual program will:
o Provide an overview of design as a career option
o Introduce the various disciplines and courses offered at design schools
o Share firsthand experiences from young tribal design professionals
o Offer guidance on how to prepare and apply for design education
With Indias design industry growing at 25% annually and a significant talent gap of only 7,000 designers for a demand of 60,000 here is a tremendous opportunity for tribal youth to contribute meaningfully to this sector, said a spokesperson from the Tribal Design Forum.
The sessions are strategically scheduled during school vacations to ensure maximum participation and are open to students, parents, guardians, and educators. Participation is free and open to all.
Alumni from India's premier design institute, the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, will provide guidance on topics such as admission processes, subject comprehension, career prospects, skills and tools, work environments, personal growth, and the relationship between design, industry, and society. The covered design fields include:
1. Graphic Design Monday, May 5th, 2025 Madhavi Itti Menon
2. Exhibition Design Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 Shubham Sahu
3. Animation Design Wednesday, May 7th, 2025 Kunga Thinley

The Tribal Design Forum is also gearing up to launch Tribal Futures 2.0, Indias largest tribal festival, in its second edition. This month-long celebration of indigenous creativity and imagination will take place from August 1 to August 30.
