The Organizing Committee is delighted to announce the HUN-Thadou Cultural Festival 2025, which will be held on April 4, 2025, in Guwahati, Assam, India. This grand celebration of the Thadou community’s rich cultural heritage symbolizes renewal, growth, and the deep connection to the sprouting of newly sown seeds.
Hun, officially recognized as a restricted holiday in Manipur, has been celebrated for generations. This year, in a historic decision, Guwahati has been chosen as the venue to include Thadous living outside Manipur and to provide a safe and inclusive environment for the celebration. By hosting the festival in Assam, the organizing committee aims to uphold the values of peace, harmony, and cultural pride while showcasing the Thadou community’s vibrant traditions on a broader platform.
The festival also serves as an opportunity to assert the Thadou Tribe’s distinct identity and heritage, particularly in Assam, where the Thadou are recognized as an Indigenous Tribe. Often overshadowed by perceptions of Kuki dominance, the event provides a crucial platform to celebrate the Thadou community’s unique cultural legacy and reaffirm the distinction between the Thadou and Kuki communities.
This landmark festival marks a significant moment in the resurgence of the Thadou Tribe in Assam. It reflects the organizing committee’s commitment to seeking government recognition of Hun as a state-approved festival, ensuring the preservation and promotion of the Thadou community’s identity and traditions for future generations.
The Organizing Committee has established sub-committees to oversee various aspects of the event, including guest coordination, finance, publications, cultural programs, hospitality, logistics, and community mobilization. These teams are diligently working to ensure the festival is a meaningful and unforgettable celebration.
The HUN-Thadou Cultural Festival 2025 transcends a mere cultural gathering. It is a statement of unity, peace, and the recognition of the Thadou people. By connecting Thadou communities worldwide and fostering cross-cultural understanding, the festival seeks to promote the values of coexistence, mutual respect, and shared heritage.
We warmly invite people from all communities to join us in celebrating the rich heritage of the Thadou people and supporting the cause of peace, harmony, and unity. Let us come together to honour our shared values, embrace our cultural diversity, and champion the cause of peace!
Together, we can make the HUN-Thadou Cultural Festival 2025 a beacon of hope, harmony, and cultural pride.
Statement: “Thadou is a distinct ethnic group of people. Thadou is not Kuki, or underneath Kuki, or part of Kuki, but a separate, independent entity from Kuki. Any organization that incorporates “Thadou” but espouses Kuki and mis-portrays Thadou as Kuki or a part of Kuki is illegitimate and does not represent Thadou people and interest” – Thadou Convention, 2024.
