Nupi Lal (1939) observance aims to pay homage to the courageous Meitei women who had fought against the oppression and economic exploitation under British colonial. Nupi Lal symbolizes the strength and resilience of Manipuri women in fighting against oppression, economic injustice, and colonial exploitation.
This observance cum protest seeks to honor the unwavering courage of Meitei women who had historically stood for justice and dignity, while shedding light on the ongoing atrocities and amplifying the voices of victims and our families even after 75 years of India became a republic.
The recent Jiribam Massacre stands as a grim reminder of the escalating violence in Manipur. Perpetrated by Chin-Kuki militants, this horrific incident saw the brutal killing of innocent Meitei civilians, including women and children, leaving communities devastated under watch of the state and Central Government.
