Imphal, March 13: Incensed party workers and people of Khangabok AC who had supported and voted for Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the just concluded State Assembly election today stormed and ransacked the office of the Khangabok Kendra Congress Committee (I) in protest against the decision of Ibobi to quit the AC.

Ibobi had contested and got elected from both Khangabok and Thoubal ACs by securing large number of votes.

While retaining the Thoubal seat where he contested in the election for the first time, Ibobi relinquished Khangabok AC his home constituency yesterday.

According to a reliable source, on receiving the report, the Chief Minister had set out for Khangabok to pacify the angry party workers and the people, but he returned midway after offering prayer at the temple of Arong Ningthou located at Thoubal Athokpam Makha Leikai.

Inspite of deployment of security personnel to guard the office in view of volatile situation since yesterday, a large number of angry party workers and people stormed the office.

Apart from pulling down the party flag hoisted inside the office complex and setting it ion fire, the angry mob also brought out all the furniture, files and other office materials and made a bonfire of the same amid slogan shouting against party leaders.

The situation was brought under control with arrival of reinforcement of police forces.

According to the reliable, on getting the news of the revolt by hi party workers, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh set out for Khangabok at around 2 pm today with the intention of pacifying them.

But on receipt of prior information that the incensed party workers and the people were already waiting for him at Khangabok Bazar, the Chief Minister felt it might not be proper to go ahead in such a situation.

Instead, Chief Minister and his convoy returned back after offering prayer at the temple of Arong Ningthou at Thoubal Athokpam Makha Leikai.
