Imphal, February 13: Numerous incidents of poll-related violence including arson and opening firing at rival camps are reported from areas covered by Andro, Langthabal and Uripok assembly constituencies.

According to a release of Manipur People�s Party personnel of security escort provided to RJD candidate of 7/Andro AC K Ningthemjao, accompanied by some individuals damaged targeted political workers of MPP nominee Th Shyamkumar at around midnight yesterday.

Besides opening fire that caused damage to election camps covered by 7/19, 7/18 and 7/17 polling stations, flags/festoons were pulled down and abusive language used against sympathisers of Shyamkumar, alleged the MPP.

Pointing out that such unruly conduct is aggravating the already tense situation a formal complaint has been lodged at Yairipok police station for necessary measures to check occurrence of untoward incident in the area, added the MPP release.

Reporting another firing incident last night, Uripok Women�s Association said unidentified miscreants opened fire in the by-lanes of Ningthemchamayum, Koijam and Oinam in Uripok Sinam Leikai.

A meeting held today strongly condemned such act and asked all concerned to clarify on the matter.

On the otherhand, Langthabal Council Communist Party of India claimed that local residents along with meira paibis apprehended two persons and seized one small arm (9mm pistol) with four live rounds and two empty case on February 11 night from Haoreibi Mayai Leikai area.

The two persons who came in a red-coloured Maruti (800) car were nabbed while trying to escape after firing some blank rounds in the area while their accomplices in another vehicle (Maruti Alto) managed to flee, contended the CPI unit�s release.

Claiming that during interrogation the two apprehended persons confessed to have been sent by Langthabal AC�s LJP candidate K Shyam Singh to disrupt poll-related works of CPI nominee N Singhajit, the release informed of the two miscreants identified as Nameirakpam Tombisana Singh (28) s/o N Shyamkishor of Kyamgei Mamang Leikai and Ashem Binoy Singh (26) s/o A Ibobi of Langdum Mamang Leikai being handed over to police station concerned for necessary action.
