Imphal, September 28: Despite the public outcries, protest demonstrations as well as appeal from different sections of the society to respect sanctity of educational institutions, the Kangleipak Medical, Para-medical and Nursing Institute, Khurai sajor Leikai came under bomb attack for the third time last night.

However, the hand-grenade lobbed by unidentified persons missed the intended target and landed at an adjacent residential compound after rebounding from the tin roof.

The explosive device hurled at around 11 pm from beyond the boundary wall of the Institute's ladies/girls hostel block was retrieved by police bomb experts this morning and safely exploded.

Following monetary demand of Rs 10 lakh served against the Institute and telephonic threat by one Wanglen Khuman of the proscribed KCP, bomb attacks were previously carried out on September 19 and 26 on the institute.

Similar attacks, prior to last night, reportedly prompted authorities of the Institute to grant temporary leave to the hostel inmates on grounds of security apart from the incident evoking strong condemnation in the form of a protest rally taken out by nursing students of nine institutes yesterday.

Police have reportedly registered a case on the attacks even though there is no arrest in connection with the incidents as yet.

Effort to contact authorities of the Institute to get their side of the story as well as comments today drew blank.
