Imphal, May 26 2009: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have decried the pulling up and hunting for student leaders without giving any reason by security forces since yesterday.

In a press release, the AMSU condemned the alleged act of security forces looking for its vice-president Khangenbam Khaba Meitei at his home yesterday.

Besides butting the elder brother of Khaba, the police personnel also took away the mobile phone of the vice-president, it conveyed.

It also demanded unconditional release of the functionaries of AMSU Bishnupur District Committee and MU students pulled up by police.

Taking student leaders into police custody on a mass scale when the issue of Prof Islamuddin is still hot would amount to inviting another issue, it cautioned.

The AMSU further urged the State Government to book and punish all those involved in the killing of Prof Islamuddin.

Meanwhile, DESAM has also asked the State Government to halt its attempt to pull up student leaders.

They also demanded unconditional release of the arrested leaders.

Saying that this step of the State Government would lead to a chaotic and lawless situation in the State, DESAM asked as to why the Government has been arresting or working to arrest student leaders.

In case the State Government does not withdraw its steps and release the arrested students, DESAM would take up necessary measures to fight against the same effort of the Government, added the release.
