Imphal, June 21 2010: While there is demand for safe passage of vehicles on the NH-39 from various quarters, an Alto car belonging to Eastern Motors, Chingmeirong has been hijacked by some miscreants at gunpoint from Makhan Khunou under Mao police station by some miscreants today.

The hijacked vehicle was among 10 Alto brand new cars of the Eastern Motors, Chingmeirong heading Imphal from Dimapur .

The incident took place at about 12.30 pm at Makhan Khunou, reports said.

The driver was abandoned by the miscreants after hijacking the cars, others have turned backed towards Mao gate.

Mao police registered a case and started investigation into the incident.

Police headquarters in Imphal has also been informed, a report from the Mao police said.

Meanwhile, a total of 11 trucks, eight loaded with auto vehicles and three with grocery items arrived at Sekmai through the NH-39 were escorted upto Imphal by a team of police this afternoon, at about 2.15 pm.

No untoward incident occurred to trucks, police said.
