Two hurt in grenade attack

Imphal, May 13 2009: Mother and sister-in-law of Mangsatabam Gojendra Singh (56) who is the Secretary of Planning and Development Authority which is under the Manipur Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) sustained injuries when a grenade hurled by unidentified armed persons exploded at their Soibam Leikai Old Chekcon residence this afternoon.

82-year old Ketuki Devi, mother of Gojendra and his sister-in-law identified as Sanatombi Devi (62) were having tea at the veranda of the house when the grenade landed and exploded at the courtyard at around 4.15 pm. Both of them were hit by bomb splinters on their left legs and have been admitted to JN Hospital at Porompat.

They are stated to be out of danger.

At the time of the attack, Gojendra was in his office.

It is informed that though he has not received any monetary demand or threat from UGs at personal level, there are many such instances with regard to his office.

Porompat Police Station has taken up a case in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, Citizens' Club, Soibam Leikai has strongly condemned the bomb attack which left two women injured.

The Club also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such dastardly acts.
