Imphal, November 20: A suspected militant, who was one among a group abducting a personnel of the 5 Assam Rifles was killed in an encounter with Imphal West police commandos at Waheng Khuman Mayai Leikai under Wangoi police station today at about 7.30 pm.

The AR man was also injured in the shoot out.

Another suspected UG was also arrested after the shoot out.

Police sources said that the incident occurred while the AR man, a rifleman of the 5 Assam Rifles posted at Jiribam, was returning home today at Waheng Khuman Mayai Leikai on a Pulsar motor cycle.

Two suspected UGs accosted him and were taking him along with them when they ran into the police team and the encounter ensued.

The AR man is identified as Yumnam Bishwarjit (26).He is currently on leave.

The suspected UG killed is named as one Ibomcha of Sekmaijin while the arrested is identified as W Umakanta alias Kanta (26) of Samurou Awang Leikai.

Police said both are PLA cadres and added that two motor cycles and one NV scooter have been recovered from the site of the incident.

The injured AR man has been admitted to RIMS hospital.
