Imphal, July 09 2010: The Kuki People's Forum, Chandel District has decided to launch agitation of various forms from July 14 in case rice and fertilizers are not made available to people of hill districts by July 13 .

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this morning, advisor of Kuki People's Forum, Chandel District JK Haokip and spokesperson of the forum Robert Gangte said that all the goods brought in in the aftermath of the prolonged blockade did not reach any part of the hill districts.

Whatever goods being brought in were utilised in the valley, they lamented.

Whereas each of the MLAs from the valley were allocated 500 bags of fertilizers, none of the MLAs and Ministers from the hill districts were given any fertilizer except 300 bags of fertilizer given to Power Minister Phungzathang.

Such discriminatory attitude can never foster unity for peace and development of the State, JK Haokip and Robert said.

They went on to decry that the Government and relevant authorities have never bothered to enquire into the practice of selling petrol and diesel on road sides at exorbitant prices while all oil-pumps remained closed.

Under such circumstances, it would not be any exaggeration to say that the Government has been openly supporting black-marketers.

Even though the forum supports the decision of the Transporters' and Drivers' Council to take NH 53 in place of NH 38, the forum cannot believe that Public Works Department would shoulder the huge responsibility of developing with the required commitment and sincerity.

It would be in the best interest of the people for the State Government not to take responsibility for what is beyond its capacity, JK Haokip and Robert Gangte asserted.
