Rina's double helps IW clinch women's football title

Imphal, August 28 2022: Imphal West shrugged off an early deficit to snatch a 2-1 win over Imphal East and clinch the women's football title in the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022 at SAI ground, Takyel, on Sunday.

Imphal East roared into action from the word go and they took just six minutes to steal a march on their West opponents.

It was Rina Roy who put Imphal East ahead with a calm 6th-minute finish.

After trailing behind early, Imphal West fought hard and finally exploited their chance in the 24th minute that set up Ch Binomala Devi who made no mistake in dispatching the ball into the back of net.

Buoyed by the leveller, Imphal West pressed on and made further inroads as Ch Binomala proved her worth with another goal in the 45th minute.

In the ensuing minutes of exchanges, the East squad's spirited efforts proved to be futile as the West team stood their ground and eventually enjoyed a memorable day.
