CM, CSOs felicitate MMA fighter Satgunhao Kipgen

Chief minister N Biren Singh on Saturday felicitated Mixed Martial Arts fighter Satgunhao Kipgen at his secretariat.
Satgunhao Kipgen, who is from Sapormeina village in Kangpokpi district, bagged gold medal in the AIMMAF National Open MMA Championship held recently in New Delhi.
The chief minister interacted with Kipgen and his family and motivated him to continue his practice dedicatedly to achieve more success in future.
N Biren also assured to pro vide all possible support to the MMA fighter to achieve his aim of acquiring training in Thailand and becoming a UFC player.
Satgunhao Kipgen was accompanied by his mother and representatives of Thadou Inpi-GHQ (apex body of Thadou Tribe) during the felicitation programme.
Meanwhile, civil society organisations of Kangpokpi including Kuki Inpi, Thadou Inpi, KSO, TYA, TSA, Zillai, TWA, KRSU and KWU rolled out the red carpet for Satgunhao Kipgen on Saturday when he returned from New Delhi.
Satgunhao Kipgen of Saparmeina in Kangpokpi district won the gold medal at the All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation's National Open Mixed Martial Arts Championship, 2022 held in New Delhi.
The civil society organizations of Kangpokpi organised a grand reception of the gold medallist at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.
The reception ceremony was also attended by Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, who lauded the MMA gold medallist and extended a warm welcome while assuring him of support in all possible manners.
After the gold medallist, who lost his father at a tender age, landed at the Airport, leaders of CSOs and his fans welcomed him and cheered him all along the way to his residential home at Saparmeina where a reception ceremony was hosted by United Saparmeina Youth Club and Saparmeina Village Authority.
Despite his family's financial problem, Satgunhao pursued his career in MMA with the support of his widowed mother and his four siblings which ultimately helped him in bagging the first gold medal in the Northeast Fight Championship held in Guwahati in 2019 .
In 2021, Satgunhao secured a silver medal in the Interstate Wushu Championship, 2020.He also won gold medal in Hero Pro Fight Night, 2021 in Maharashtra and a silver medal in All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation National Mixed Martial Arts Championship held in Bangalore.
Satgunhao Kipgen said that his aim and priority is to train in Thailand and become one of the most successful UFC players in the history of India and Manipur.
