The 1st Haipei Rani Gaidinliu Women Sports and Cultural Programme under the theme "Reignite the Glory" organised by Rongmei Luh Phwam Manipur (RLPM) kicked off on Tuesday at Longmai Common Ground, Noney District Hq.
The sports event was opened by agriculture minister Oinam Lukhoi who attended as the chief guest.
Gaidon Kamei, special invitee & state executive of BJP Manipur Pradesh was as the guest of honour.
Also present were Ramkung Pamei, president Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, as the function president and Asha Wungam, president Naga Women Union, as the special guest.
The three-day long programme will include march-past competition, volleyball tournament, cultural dance competition, musical extravaganza, bonfire lighting, Rongmei Naga Luh Phwam Nite, etc.
Speaking at the event, Oinam Lukhoi Singh lambasted the previous congress government for ignoring the hill people and weaker section in developmental infrastructure and government schemes.
He said that now the present NDA government led by Narendra Modi and N Biren Singh revived the good relationship between hill and valley people, adding that the present government gives more focus on hilly area of Manipur.
The BJP led government recognises the freedom fighter of tribal people and gives esteemed honour in works and reality.
Now the central government has already sanctioned for construction of Rani Gaidinliu Museum at her birth place Longkao village.
Special attention in priority basis is being given to hill and remote places bringing equal development to both hill and valley.
That is why 'Go to Village and Go to Hills' schemes have been taken up in Manipur, the minister said.
Recalling that during Atal Bihari Vajpai government the Jiri-Imphal railways project had been brought under the chief ministership of W Nipamacha Singh, Oinam Lukhoi appealed to the people not to give hindrances and disturbances to any government development activities.
A Rs 3 crore project has been sanctioned and work has also been started by the state tourism department to develop eco-tourism Park near World Railways Bridge at Khumji, Noney.
In his speech, Gaidon Kamei said, "Our Rongmei community should always keep the spirit of patriotism and perseverance alive to protect our land and rich cultural heritage.
We need to revive and preserve once again our rich culture and traditional values.
And Rongmei Luh Phwam should be strengthened to safeguard our identity".
More than 31 volleyball teams and 6 cultural troupes from several 'lungrian' of Rongmei community took part in the sports and cultural programme.
