SYUC men, Ideal women seal state hockey titles

Imphal, January 15 2022: SYUC men and Ideal Club women emerged the victors in their respective final matches of the 1st State Level Hockey Tournament for U-17 men and U-20 women on Saturday.

In the men's final, SYUC pulled off a 4-3 win over Hockey Union to get their hands on the winners' trophy.

SYUC led the first quarter 1-0 courtesy of A Yaiphathoi who struck in their opener one minute into regulation.

In the second quarter, the SYUC men were three goals ahead of their opponents after G Dingku scored a quick double (11th, 16th) before HU reduced the deficit to 2-3 in the third quarter through M Nganba (36th) and M Sushanta (42nd).Both teams went all out in the fourth quarter and a collected a goal apiece but it was SYUC who emerged 4-3 victors at the end of the game.

Yaiphathoi's second and team's fourth goal in the 46th minute proved to be the match winner.

Th Kingson was the scorer for HU but his 48th-minute effort wasn't enough.

The women's final saw Ideal Club scrape past YCCIC 3-2 for their title.

T Ayingbi opened the scoring in the 20th minute and she went on to double the lead in the 31st minute hefore YCCIC fought their way back into contention with strkes from S Babyrani (32nd) and K Eleena (44th).But Ideal made sure of their victory with their third goal (57th) from S Tanu.

YCCIC's S Babyrani was adjudged as the woman of the tournament while Hockey Union's Th Kingson was named the man of the tournament, with Ideal Club's S Tanu and SYUC's G Dingku receiving the awards for woman and man of the final matches.
