Shillong to host 2nd NE Olympic Games

The first coordination meeting of North East Olympic Organisation Committee and North East Olympic Association has resolved to organise the 2nd North East Olympic Games at Shillong in Meghalaya from October 30 to November 6, during which competitions will be held on 18 disciplines.
The meeting held at Main Secretariat, Shillong on Wednesday was participated by Olympic associations of eight North Eastern states.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the meeting, Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam, who attended the meet as North East Olympic Association (NEOA) and Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) president, expressed that the 2nd NE Olympic Games will be an important sporting event as it will be organised as part of Golden Jubilee celebration of statehood of Meghalaya.
The games will provide not only a great opportunity for the NE youths but will also help in promoting understanding and unity amongst them, he said.
Radheshyam said that the meeting also resolved to invite top NE athletes who won medals at Tokyo Olympics and recently held Commonwealth Games as special invitees of the opening ceremony.
On the other hand, Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) working president and Meghalaya sports & youth affairs minister Banteidor Lyngdoh stated that the 18 disciplines were decided based on infrastructure present in the state as well as per the advisory of MSOA.
The meeting was also attended by MOA executive member N Ibungochoubi.
