Makhrelui VFC win Senapati veteran football title

Senapati, October 07 2024: Makhrelui Veteran Football Club (VFC) emerged champions of the 2nd Senapati District Veteran Football Tournament, 2024 on Monday with a solitary goal victory over Katomei Area Veteran Football Club.

The tournament organised since September 25 by Senapati District Veteran Football Association in collaboration with Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM) had 19 teams from across the district vying for the top honours.

After a barren first half, goal-less, Makhrelui VFC found the decisive goal within few minutes after the lemon break to lift the trophy.

Among the individual prize winners, the Golden Boot was awarded to Treson, Golden Glove to Lameo, Man of the Tournament to SH Robert, and Best Defender to SH Victor, all of Makhrelui VFC; Best Midfielder to Israel of Katomei Area VFC, Oldest Player of the tournament to T Ngouning of Oklong VFC and the Best Discipline Team award to Southern Naga VFC.

The closing ceremony was attended by GPRN Shepoumaramth Region CAO Boveio Poukai Duo and Maram-Thangal Region EO deputy kilonser YK Achan Thangal as special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, Boveio Poukai noted that establishment of the astro turf ground in the district headquarters has been inspirational to football lovers in the district.

While congratulating both finalists and expressing that the tournament showcased that age is just a number, he urged all players to continue to exhibit their game spirit, maturity as well as continue to entertain the spectators.

The CAO further commended the denizens for extending unflinching cooperation to the GPRN despite all their limitations, stating the undeniable support of the people continues to be the strength of the movement.

On the other hand, YK Achan stated that the association was formed in 2023 with an aim to age gracefully with good health.
