Imphal, July 07 2022:
Meghalaya Leopards started their campaign on a rousing note and Arunachal Pradesh Tigers got off to a winning start as the 1st North East Women's Football Tournament 2022 kicked off at SAI Turf Ground, Takyel, on Thursday.
Meghalaya Leopards made light work of Assam Rhinos in their 6-1 hammering of the latter.
It was Assam Rhinos who took the lead early when Darathiuria found the back of the net after nine minutes.
But moments later, Meghalaya Leopards turned things around with a flurry of successful raids at the other end as Nisilia dazzled for her side.
Nisilia put her team on level terms in the 35th minute and she went on to put the Meghalaya Leopards in front in the space of two minutes.
Then Jawanlang extended Meghalaya's lead in the first minute of first-half added time before Sunalinda made it 4-1 just before the break.
After the interval, Sunalinda was at it again in the 63rd minute and Nisilia completed her hat-trick in the 69th minute to close out the contest.
Earlier in the opening match, Kai Rumi scored a double to steer Arunachal Pradesh Tigers to a 2-0 win over Tripura Pythons.
After a barren first half, Kai Rumi found the break through in the 57th minute before she claimed her second goal in the 62nd minute.
The Arunachal women never relinquished their 2-0 lead to take all three points in their campaign opener.
