National Games: Wushu athletes strike six gold, cyclists win two gold to steer Manipur to fifth spot on Day 10

Another strong showing by Manipur athletes yielded six gold medals in wushu and two gold in cycling on Day 10 of the 37th National Games 2023 on Saturday.
The Saturday's results propelled Manipur to the fifth spot from seventh in the medal table as the state contingent's overall medal haul surged to 62 on Day 10, with 25 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze.
It was a 'golden day' in the wushu competition that saw six gold, four silver and two bronze medals for Manipur, in addition to three gold they had clinched earlier at the Games.
The wushu players who shone for the state with top podium honours on Day 10 were Yengkhom Geeta Devi (Taijijian), Bonish Yurembam (Nungun), Naorem Roshibina Devi, Oinam Bidyapati Chanu, Athokpam James and Thokchom Meneka.
While Konjengbam Luxmi Devi, Moirangthem Samsan Singh and Thangjam Naocha Meitei each bagged silver medals, Thongam Aruna Devi and Elangbam Italy Chanu added bronze medals to state's tally.
In cycling, Manipur secured their second gold medal after winning the men's team sprint 750m event courtesy of K Rahul Singh, K Jemsh Singh and Y Rojit Singh.
On the other hand, the women's team composed of K Rejiya Devi, T Monorama Devi, M Sonali Chanu and H Premika Devi settled for the silver medal in the women's team sprint 750m contest.
In an updated medal tally late night the state cyclists added one more gold medal and a silver.
Also, the state duo of Pravesh Kumar Salam and Mohd Aftaf Ahmad Khan claimed the bronze medal after finishing third in the lawn bowl competition.
Manipur's overall medal tally has now increased to 62, with 18 (G-9, S-7, B-2) in wushu, five in cycling (G-3, S-2, B-0), eight in pencak silat (G-3, S-0, B-5), four in gymnastics (G-3, S-1, B-0), four in sepaktakraw (G-2, S-2, B-0), four in archery (G-2, S-1, B-1), four in weightlifting (G-1, S-1, B-2), seven in fencing (G-1, S-1, B-5), four in taekwondo (G-1, S-0, B-3), two in rowing (G-0, S-2, B-0), one in wrestling (G-0, S-0, B-1), one in canoeing & kayaking (G-0, S-0, B-1) and one in lawn bowl (G-0, S-0, B-1).Maharashtra lead the medal table with 182 medals (G-64, S-59, B-59), Services Sports Control Board trail behind with 99 medals (G-51, S-22, B-26), Haryana occupy the third place with 121 medals (G-45, S-31, B-45), Karnakata are fourth with 73 medals (G-28, S-21, B-21), and Manipur have moved up to the fifth spot with 62 medals (G-25, S-16, B-21) .
