IE produce strong showing in swimming, gymnastics, tennis & archery as IW dazzle in cycling, snooting

Imphal, August 28 2022:
Imphal East dominated swimming, gymnastics and tennis competitions while Imphal West swept the board in cycling on the third day of the Manipur Olympic Games 2022 on Sunday.
Imphal East produced a strong showing in the swimming competition by winning seven of the 11 gold medals on offer on Sunday.
In the individual category, L Jessica Chanu and Dekalu Th Panmei shone brightest with two gold medals each.
Jessica won both women's 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke events while Dekalu came on top in both women's 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events.
L Ricky Singh, on the other hand, bagged the men's 100m breaststroke gold medal.
Imphal East's two other gold medals came courtesy of their triumph in both men's 4x100m freestyle relay and women's 4x100m medley relay.
In addition, the East side bagged five silver and five bronze medals in the day's competition.
GYMNASTICS: Imphal East and Bishnupur equally shared 12 gold medals on offer on Sunday.
A Nelbin and S Ruben Singh produced remarkable performances by claiming three gold medals each for the East side.
Nelbin won men's all-round, pommel horse and vault events while Ruben was the top finisher in roman rings, pommel bars and floor exercise.
Meanwhile, Oinam Bandana Devi notched up staller performances to scoop five of Bishnupur's six gold medals.
Bandana made her mark in women's vault, balance beam, uneven bars, floor exercise and all-round contests, while Kh Laxman Singh secured the gold medal in the horse bar event.
TENNIS: Imphal East beat Imphal West to take the gold medal in the team event.
Ka-kching finished third for the bronze medal.
CYCLING: Imphal West made a clean sweep of five gold medals in the track cycling competition on Sunday.
Konthoujam Runabas made a name for himself with two gold medals for the West team.
Runabas paddled his way to yellow metal in men's 4 km individual pursuit and 7km scratch race events.
Among other gold medallist for Imphal West were Naorem Biseshori (women's 3km pursuit), Thangsabam Chinglensana (men's 1km sprint) and Yumnam Thaja (women's 1km sprint).
The IW team also added four silver and five bronze medals to their medal tally in the track cycling event.
SHOOTING: Imphal West dominated the shooting tournament on the third day of the State Games by grabbing three gold medals.
Kunyson Tonambam (men's 25m fire pistol) and Davidson Khumbongmayum (men's 10m rifle) both claimed a gold medal for the West in the individual events as the trio of Davidson Khumbongmayum, K Asish Sharma and Oinam Labish Singh won the men's 10m rifle team event.
ARCHERY: Imphal East swept the board in the Olympic round compound as Ksh Malemsana claimed the top honours in the women's individual Olympic round compound event and Sh Ramakanta won the men's individual Olympic round compound event.
In addition, the Imphal East pair of Sh Ramakanta and Th Senyai bagged the compound mixed team gold medal.
EQUESTRIAN: Imphal East's N Luxmi emerged as the winner of the women's show jumping as Imphal West's Neelu Rajku mari came off second best and East's Thoubam Tanna Devi settled for the bronze medal.
BOXING: Naorem Medhajit (Kak), Laiphrakpam Chandrabose (IE), Leimapokpam Rahul (Kak), Khoinaijam Sanamacha (IW), Oinam Maikel (Bpr), Dusarai Kshetrimayum (IW), Thiyam Apsana Devi (Bpr), Elangbam Thoithoi Chanu (Kak), Kayenpaibam Bandana Devi (IW), Moirangthem Luxmi Devi (Kak), Thounaojam Ojibala (IW), Maibam Rosemary Chanu (Bpr), Athipro Genevieve (Spt), Thotyola Ronru Shimray (Ukl), Huidrom Amneshwori (IW), Khulakpham Samim Banu (IE), Soibam Binita Chanu (Bpr) and Kshetrimayum Silky Devi (IW) advanced to finals in the youth & elite (men & women) competition.
SQUASH: Imphal East's Joshi Laishram clinched the women's singles title while Imphal West's K Tomba Meitei took the men's singles crown.
