Dy Speaker fetes medal winning boxers

Imphal, August 21 2019: Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Kongkham Robindro has encouraged three boxers from Mayang Imphal who have won medals in the recently concluded 3rd Nation's Cup, International Boxing Tournament at Vrbas, Serbia, with cash awards, today.

The players from Mayang Imphal that were felicitated during a simple function organised by Social Environment Development Organisation at Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai Community Hall are Huidrom Ambeshori Devi (gold medallist in women's 57kg), d/o H Bikram; Chongtham Biswamitra Singh (silver medallist in men's 48kg), s/o Shyamchandra and Saikhom Victor (bronze medallist in men's 52kg, s/o S Brojen.

The three boxers were received from Imphal International Airport by the exuberant populace of Mayang Imphal with much fanfare and gaiety.

While applauding the boxers for bringing laurels to the country, the chief guest of the function, K Robindro urged the players to continue to give their best effort in their field so as to win more medals in the future event like Olympic.

Though a premium infrastructures for practice is not available as of now at Mayang Imphal, the commitment of the players and their guardians have finally paid off, Robindro said and assured that possible help will be extended from his side to encourage the players furthermore.

Sub Divisional Police Officer of Mayang Imphal PS, Augustine Jangminthang Khongsai, while recalling that Manipur is known as the power house of games and sports in the country, urged the players to train hard to live up to the label.

Dr Ch Tombi Singh, retd Deputy Director of Health Services; Ch Thoiba Singh, secretary Sarita Regional Boxing Academy also attended the programme among others.
