14th Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial Hockey tourney begins

Imphal, January 20 2013 : The 14th Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial Invitation Hockey Tournament 2012-13 organised by Hockey Manipur has commenced today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, Imphal.

MLA Th Bishwajit; Head of Department, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology RIMS Professor Dr Ch Manglem who is also the Vice President of Hockey Manipur and Deputy Inspector General of Police, S Manglemjao graced the inaugural function as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.

The first match of the tournament was played between COSMO, Wangkhei and SSA, Charangpat today.

The match was won by COSMO after defeating SSA 2-1 in a keenly contested match.

The match began with high notes among the players of hoth teams.

SSA lacks better coordination in the first half of the match which cost them the match.

Kh Debeshwor of COSMO drew the first blood in the 6th minute of the match.

The second goal of COSMO was scored in a penalty shoot in the 23rd minute of the match.

The shot was taken by L herojit.

On the other hand, SSA who could not open their goal account played the second half with a better coordination and put their best efforts to open their goal account.

As a result, they succeeded in opening their goal account in the 68th minute of the match by M Dhananjoy.

Following the goal, they tried their best to equalise the score but they could not get enough time to mount pressure against their opponent and lost the match.
