Imphal, February 12 2025:
ESU showcased a well-rounded performance to seal a four-wicket victory over MODEL in the 9th MNCA Elite Tournament 2024-25 at Model Hr Sec & Oriental College Ground on Wednesday.
The contest saw ESU's disciplined bowling effort restrict MODEL to a modest total, followed by a composed run chase to clinch the win.
After winning the toss, ESU elected to field first, a decision that proved effective as they bowled out MODEL for 192 in 34 overs.
Despite a solid batting effort from key players, MODEL struggled to build lasting partnerships against a well-organised ESU bowling attack.
Opener Langlonyamba M provided a strong foundation for MODEL with a crucial knock of 52 runs, anchoring the innings.
Contributions from Dibak Naorem (32), Robertson Laishram (29), and Maisnam Tejkumar (24) helped push the total past the 190-run mark.
ESU's bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, with L Henary and Sanatomba leading the attack with three wickets each.
Supporting them were Lourembam Dipu, Chongtham Mehul Shreth, Thokchom Nishikanta, and Chitaranjan Sharma, who claimed a wicket apiece, ensuring that MODEL couldn't build momentum in the latter stages of their innings.
Chasing 193 for victory, ESU displayed patience and composure to reach the target in 35 overs, losing six wickets along the way.
The innings was anchored by a stellar performance from Chongtham Mehul Shreth, who top-scored with 64 runs, providing stability at the crease.
Supporting contributions came from Thokchom Nishikanta (36), Hanjabam Donba Sharma (21), and Sanatomba (20), all of whom ensured that ESU remained on course.
As the chase neared its conclusion, Hanjabam Naoba Sharma remained unbeaten on 19, alongside L Henary (4 not out), guiding ESU to a well-earned victory.
MODEL's bowlers put up a valiant effort, with Waikhom Priyokumar and Langlonyamba M picking up two wickets each, while Dibak Naorem chipped in with one.
However, they were unable to apply sustained pressure to derail ESU's steady pursuit of the target.
