Manipur ensured their place in the quarterfinals of the 14th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2024, following their 10-0 hammering of Assam in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Laishram Dipu Singh led Manipur's impressive performance with a three-goal salvo, complemented by two goals from Dhananjay Meetei.
The team came out strong, opening with an impressive 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Ganendrajith Ningombam set the tone with a goal in the 3rd minute, swiftly capitalizing on early momentum.
This early success was amplified when Thounaojam Ingalemba Luwang doubled Manipur's lead with a goal in the 10th minute.
Chinglensana Singh Kangujam then raised the pressure with a third goal in the 13th minute, and Laishram Dipu Singh added to the tally just one minute later, bringing the score to 4-0 by the 14th minute.
The onslaught continued into the second half, where Dipu returned to complete his hat-trick with goals in the 27th and 36th minutes.
Bhakar Ningombam extended the lead to 6-0 in the 45th minute, followed quickly by Ningombam Jenjen Singh's contribution just a minute later, making it 7-0 .
Meetei rounded off the scoring with back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 54th minutes, sealing a comprehensive victory that demonstrated both Manipur's offensive prowess and tactical discipline.
With this commanding win, Manipur progress to the quarterfinals with confidence.
They will face Punjab on November 13, 2024, where they will aim to carry forward this momentum and secure a spot in the semifinals.
