38th National Games: Fencer N Mina wins gold; two bronze in Judo as Manipur's medal tally swells to 45

Manipur added two more bronze medals to their tally in judo on the 15th day of the ongoing 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, bringing the state's total medal count to 45 .
Earlier on Day 14, state fencer N Mina won a gold medal in the women's individual foil competition, while fellow W Sonia settled for the bronze.
In the judo competition, Irengbam Kalpana Devi secured a bronze medal in the women's 63kg category, while Ningthoujam Sheetal Singh clinched bronze in the men's 90kg category.
However, in fencing, Manipur's athletes faced a tough challenge, failing to secure any medals in Tuesday's competition.
S Nelcyrosena and L Bidyapati Na were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the women's category, narrowly losing 14-15 and 10-15, respectively.
In the women's epee event, S Chingkheingan-bi was defeated in the round of 16 (10-18), while M Strella also exited in the same round (12-15) .
In the men's sabre event, Mexi Thokchom and S Biju Meite fell in the round of 32, while Moramba Laishram was eliminated in the round of 16 .
S Chingkheinganba exited in the first round.
The fencing epee and foil team events are set to commence on Wednesday, providing another opportunity for Manipur's fencers to make an impact.
Meanwhile, Manipur's canoeing and kayaking team, consisting of six men and six women, will begin their medal quest on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 .
The competition will continue on February 13 with various events.
Laishram Rajesh and Laishram Rishikesh will compete in the C2 men's 500m event, while Oinam Yaiphabi and Konjengbam Sarju will take part in the C2 women's 500m event.
Chingakham Bimola and Mairembam Jina will represent Manipur in the K2 women's 500m event on Wednesday.
On February 13, Chingakham Bimola, Toijam Dimita, Mairembam Jina, and Waikhom Roniya will participate in the K4 women's 500m event.
Toijam Dimita will also compete in the K1 women's 500m event, while Ningthoujam Nganba, Lanthoiba Potshangba, Laiphrakpam Sanatomba, and Ningthoujam Nivash will compete in the K4 men's 500m event.
In the MTB (Mountain Bike) cycling event held at Garutal, Sattal, Uttarakhand, state cyclist Khariksing Adonis Tangpu from Ukhrul, who had won a silver medal in the men's XCT (cross country time trial) on the previous day, finished fourth in the XCO (Mass Start) competition.
His teammate, Khundrakpam Ronel Singh from Ningthoukhong, secured the ninth position, as reported by the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association.
Meanwhile, Manipur's gymnastics contingent is set to commence its medal campaign in the men's artistic gymnastics competition across five categories on Wednesday.
Expressing confidence in their performance, the state gymnastics coach remarked, "Hopefully, our gymnasts will deliver their best".
The athletes representing Manipur in the gymnastics events include S Ruban Meitei, Okram Umajit Singh, Mutum Romesh Singh, Oinam Bandana Devi, Ariha Pangambam, Huirem Jesika Devi, Leishilembi Chabungbam, Anjori Pangambam, Maliyani Konsam, and RK Thoithoilembi Chanu.
Notably, state gymnasts achieved remarkable success in the 37th National Games, securing three gold medals - S Ruban in artistic gymnastics, Ariha Pangambam in aerobic individual, and the trio of Ariha Pangambam, Anjori Pangambam, and Leishilembi Chabungbam in the trio event.
