MU badminton: MU women in final; MC, PCC & KPC reach men's semis

Manipur University made it to the women's final while Mangolnganbi College, Pole Star College and Kamakhya Pemton College secured men's semifinal spots in the Chongtham Rajkumari Tamphasana Memorial Manipur University Inter College Badminton (M&W) Tournament 2024-25 on Tuesday.
In the women's competition, Manipur University triumphed in both singles and doubles events against Liberal College in their semifinal encounter.
In the singles match, Sweta Loitongbam comfortably beat Shellina Khumanthem 21-15 21-15, while Mercy Thoudam and Sofia Thokchom teamed up to make light work of Liberal College's Naoroibam Kiran and Shellina Khumanthem 21-7 21-5 in their doubles match to hand Manipur University a commanding 2-0 win on their way to the women's final.
Manipur University will either face Imphal College or SK Women's College in the final.
In the men's event, Mangolnganbi College overcame a stiff challenge from Thambal Marik College to pull off a 3-2 win.
RK Alen gave Mangolnganbi College the lead with an easy 21-7 21-4 victory over Shasen Sagolsem.
However, Thambal Marik College's Tongbram Bonson Singh drew level for his college after beating M College's L Mangai 21-13 21-12 in the second singles match.
Mangolnganbi College regained their lead by winning the first doubles match courtesy of H Romenkumar and RK Alen who prevailed 21-14 21-19 over Tongbram Bonson Singh and Pritamkumar Oinam.
This led to a third singles match where TM College triumphed, with Shasen Sagolsem defeating M College's RK Ringson 22-20 21-19 21-11 .
Mangolnganbi College, however, ensured their placed in the semifinals after the pair of RK Ringso and Kh Davidson got the better of Shasen Sagolsem and Bikash Yumnam 21-16 21-16 in the second doubles match.
Pole Star College, on the other hand, booked their place in the last four with a 3-1 win over Biraman-gol College.
Konjengbam Ngamba Singh barely broke a sweat against M Rajiv, beating 21 1 21-4 in their first singles match, but teammate Chirom Vick-son Singh stumbled in the second singles match after losing 11-21 21-14 14-21 to Jomi Singam.
Pole Star then restored their advantage after Konjengbam Ngamba Singh and H Ronel clinched the doubles match 21-2 21-2 against Malemnganba and M Rajiv.
Despite losing the third singles match, Pole Star College still managed to close out the game with a 3-1 result to make sure of their semifinal spot.
Meanwhile, Kamakhya Pemton College eased past Manipur College 3-0 into the semifinals, with Sirzeet Moirangthem and Sandeep Konsam winning their re spective singles matches.
They also won the doubles match courtesy of Dinku Takhellambam and Kelvin Ph to claim a smooth passage to the last four.
Kamakhya Pemton College will either meet Naorem Birahari College or Manipur University in the semifinals.
