Imphal, March 03 2009:: The 6th Director General Assam Rifles Cup State Equestrian Championship, 2009 organised by the Manipur Equestrian Association under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) has commenced today at Pologround, Imphal.

Major General AK Choudhary, AVSM, SM, VSM, IGAR (South) and Brigadier SK Jha, SM, Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles graced the opening ceremony as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

President, Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, S Budhachandra, IAS was the president of the function.

More than 60 players from 12 different Polo clubs are participating in the championship which has been scheduled to conlcude on March 6 next.

The chief guest of the function inaugurated an exhibitiin gallery for Polo and Horse riding as part of the championship.

Participant teams displayed a march pass ceremony today.

Bands of Assam Rifles also showed a band display as part of the opening ceremony.

Tent pegging individual sword�s event was held today as the opening match.

In today�s event S Abungcha of Manipur Police Sports Club got first position by scoring 28 points.

L Romio of Imphal Riding Club was in the second place with 27.5 points.

W Gopal of KRYPSA won the third position with 25 points while the fourth position went to Th Kaoba of Chingkheihunba Polo Club.

He got 24 points in the event.
