Assam Rifles celebrates National Sports Day

National Sports Day was celebrated by all the units under command 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) on 29 August to mark the birthday of Maj Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey wizard of India.
Canchipur Company Operating Base of Keithelmanbi Battalion observed the National Sports Day at Langthabal Mantrikhong Public Ground.
Karam Shyam, Minister of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution and Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation; Col Amit Kumar Das, Commandant Keithemanbi Battalion and A Sunanda Devi, Pradhan of Langthabal group graced the occasion as chief guest, special guest and president respectively.
The event commenced with distribution of Football equipment by chief guest and special guest followed by a friendly match between the troops of Assam Rifles and a Local club, said a press release of IGAR (S) .
Thoubal Battalion also organised a friendly football match between the troops of Assam rifles and Charangpat Football Club.
Friendly volley ball matches were also played at Upper Khoripok Company Operating Base and Chandrakhong COB.
The matches wimessed a large number of villagers including village authorities, members of youth club and locals showcasing their talent, the release continued.
Mantripukhri Battalion started the event with a motivational talk on the importance of sports highlighting the ongoing Asian Games and India's outstanding performance in it.
Two friendly volleyball matches were then conducted to showcase the competitive spirit of sportsmanship in the matches.
The events were widely appreciated by the locals, in breaking the monotony of regular routine, as well as of giving them an opportunity in increasing bonhomie with the Assam Rifles, the release said.
