I-League Match: Pune FC Beat Shillong Lajong FC

Pune FC beat Shillong Lajong FC by 5-2 in the third round of the Hero I-League fixture at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune.
The Red Lizards undoubtedly were the more clinical side throughout the game as they scored a total of five goals in the first half with Haokip scoring in the 2nd, 12th and completed his hat trick in the 15th minute, Ryuji Seoka netted in the 43rd minute while D.Nikac scored the fifth for the Red Lizrads in the 45th minute.
Assamese striker Durga Boro and former World Cupper Conell Glen scored a piece each in the 36th and 75th minute respectively for the visitors.
The Match started brilliantly for the home team as the first chance was given to them in the 2nd minute, from a Lajong defensive error as Pune FC forward Thongkhosiem Haokip capitalised on the chance and beat Lajong keeper Rehenesh TP.
He then doubled the lead in the 12th minute and found the third goal to successfully complete his hat trick and handed a three goal cushion within just 15th minutes of the game played.
As the game wore on Lajong managed to get some possession of the ball in the opponents half.
It was in the 36th minute when Durga Boro managed to pull one back for Lajong when he smashed a powerful shot into the net 35 yards out to beat Pune goalkeeper Amrinder Singh.
Pune FC who is in a formidable form in this edition of the I-League found the net two more times with Midfielder Ryuji Seouka and Striker Darko Nikac registering their names in the score sheet in the 43rd and 45th minute respectively.
The second half was more subtle than the first as neither side could create enough chances.
The only goal scored in the second half was through Cornell Glen.
The former World Cupper slotted the ball home to score the second goal for Lajong after receiving a through ball.
That was the last action of the match.
It was a disappointing day for the Reds from the North East as Pune FC dominated the match throughout, much to the delight of Karim Bencherifa who gets full three points for an excellent performance by his Lizards.
Lajong will now have to put the past behind and focus on their next match as they face off East Bengal on 1st February in Kolkata for their second away game of the season.
