RKSDV Inter-School Basketball : St Anthony emerge champions of basketball competition

Imphal, May 26 2018: St Anthony beat RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya (RKSDV) by 41-25 points in the final of the interschool basketball competition held in connection with the silver jubilee celebration of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Haotal Pangei today.

Hosts RK Sanatombi Devi Vrdyalaya (RKSDV), Pangei was found wanting in the final- match of the competition losing to St Anthony School, Hiingang by 25-41 points.

The first quarter saw both the team fighting a close match, however St Anthony School surged ahead with 8-6 points.

St Anthony School continued to lead the second quarter with a massive 21-12 points courtesy to Leishimi Hongray who extended the lead with her impressive performance.

However, RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya fought back in the third quarter, thanks to Farista Kanthun and A Rita who capitalised on the opportunity and reduced the margin to 23-29 points.

But St Anthony sealed the match by 41-25 points at the end of the last quarter as Leishimi continued her form to hand her team a convincing victory in the finals.

Leishimi led the attack from the front and scored a huge 27 points for St Anthony School while Kerorita (7 pts), Lanphuliliu (2 pts), Deborah (3 pts) and Chuthanliu (2 pts) scored for St Anthony.

Farista Kanthun and A Rita scored 10 points each for RKSDV while N Momita contributed with 3 points.

Tombisana and Nganthoi added 1 point each in the final match.

St Anthony School were handed the winner's trophy with a cash prize of Rs 5000 while RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya received the runners-up trophy and pocketed in Rs 3000 .

Leishimi Hongray was declared the best player of the tournament.

The closing ceremony of the knock-out interschool basketball competition participated by 5 schools was attended by Th Chitra Devi, IAS, DC Imphal East; Yanglem Bonny Singh, Dy ASO Imphal East and T Asha Devi, director RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya as distinguished guests who also feted the winners.
