Imphal, January 19 2020:
The local clubs, which were once powerful and eminent, are slowly dying due to various reasons and intake of non local players may be considered one of the main reason.
The statement was made by Speaker, Y Khemchand during an inaugural function of the U-13 Grassroots Football Coaching Camp organised by Indo Burma Sports Association (IBSA) at Yumnam Leikai Lairembi Lampak.
Speaking on the occasion, Y Khemchand said that the State, earlier had numerous clubs and many well known and distinguished players were sufficiently produced at those times.
However with the growing trend of roping in players from outside the State and abroad, the slots for local players are gradually dwindling which directly or indirectly affected the morale of the local players and clubs, he said.
Lauding the effort of IBSA for organising U-13 Grassroots Football Coaching Camp, the Speaker continued that the programme will surely help in grooming local talents who will make the State and the Country proud in future.
He also wished IBSA for a successful organisation of the coaching programme.
Altogether 50 U-13 players are taking in this grassroots coaching programme.
Uniforms were also distributed to the players by IBSA besides providing diets and other kits free of course.
