Futsal tourney to be organised as part of Shirui Lily festival

The entertainment sub-committee of the 4th State-Level Shirui Lily Festival 2022 and Araang League will be jointly organising a 7-A-side Futsal tournament as a part of the upcoming festival which will be held from May 25 to 28 .
This was announced by Ukhrul ADM Chunglenmang Kipgen and Araang League president Akui YR and its sports secretary T Raileng Awungshi in a press conference held at the ADM office, Mini Secretariat on Friday.
Briefing media persons, ADM Chunglenmang Kipgen, who is also the convenor of the festival's entertainment sub committee, informed that as decided during its last meeting, the sub-committee is organising the Futsal tournament by engaging Araang League in managing the event.
He said that the rationale for organising the tourna ment is to make the youths perspire by taking part in some physical movements, instead of roaming around and taking drugs.
"Knowing our CM's keen interest in sports, we are also planning to propose a friendly exhibition match between CM team and the organisers during the tournament," ADM Kipgen said.
Registration of participating teams for the tournament will be opened from May 16 to 21 and Rs 2000 will be charged as registration fee for each team, informed Akui Yr.
He said that match fixture would be released soon after a meeting of the event managers scheduled on May 23 at TTA Complex, Hamleikhong.
"A total of 16 teams would be vying for the champion ship title which carries a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh," he said, adding that other cash prizes would include Rs 50,000 for Runners-up and Rs 10,000 each for two semifinalists.
He also informed that Rs 2000 each will be award ed to top scorer and best goalkeeper, and added that the organisers can be contacted for more details on 9366350581/8259889168.The turf fields located at Langdang village and Vashimtang in Hungpung village will be the venues for the soccer tourney, Akhui added.
Meanwhile, on behalf of Araang League, Akui and Raileng expressed gratitude to entertainment sub-committee chairman MLA Ram Muivah and convenor ADM Kipgen for their initiative and concern for the youth.
"Along with the Futsal tournament, we will also organise body-building and marathon events," ADM Kipgen further informed.
He said that renowned bodybuilder Robert Meitei, principal of Ukhrul Central School, will be in charge of organising the body building event.
As for the marathon, the course will cover around 30 km starting from Ukhrul town to Shirui village and then to Ukhrul town, he said.
He also informed that in view of the upcoming festival that will attract huge number of attendees, the sub-committee is currently working on regulations to manage the traffic.
